Regular clothes and shoes off at Tesco.

Stuff the management at the St. Mellons branch of Tesco, here in Cardiff. Customers at a Welsh branch of Tesco have been banned from shopping in their pyjamas or bare feet. Notices have been put up in the St Mellons store in Cardiff saying: "Footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted". A spokesman said Tesco did not have a strict dress code but it did not want people shopping in their nightwear in case it offended other customers. He said he was not aware of any other Tesco stores having to put up similar signs.

“I’ve got lovely pairs of pyjamas, with bears and penguins on them. I’ve worn my best ones today, just so I look tidy,” said Ms Carmody, 24, who had chosen the comfortable option to “pop in for a pack of fags”.

“If you’re allowed to wear jogging bottoms, why aren’t you allowed to wear pyjamas in there, that’s what I don’t understand. It is ridiculous and stupid. I go in other shops in my pyjamas and they don’t say anything.”

But the irony is that Tesco's television ads show Martin Clunes buying milk in his pyjamas. The Men Behaving Badly star, 48, is seen dashing into a store in striped PJs during a camping trip in the 2007 telly ads.

...So that's it folks, let's walk into your local branch of Tesco barefoot. I sleep naked so I will not be able to wear any pyjamas but I do possess some jogging bottoms although I never run for anything. My wife Gail hates these jogging bottoms and she will only let me walk our dog in them! She dislikes my habit of always wearing my shirt inside my trousers and she thinks wearing a shirt inside a pair of jogging bottoms make's me appear to be an escapee from a mental hospital. She will not allow me to wear these jogging bottoms out for a pub lunch but she said nothing about a demonstration at Tesco! I think Tesco are potty over their policy of banning pyjama and barefoot customers. Tesco are simply wrong and they should be told where to stick their clubcards.

I have nothing against passengers boarding my coach on Monday wearing pyjamas or being barefoot. How the passengers dress is purely a personal decision for them, as long as they have a valid ticket, I do not mind how they are dressed. It always makes a coach driver smile when passengers are dressed scantily, it brightens up our day. Of course your coach driver will look brighter from Monday because the new uniform issue includes a rather gay red tie that must be worn from the beginning of October to the end of May.
Comments:
As a part-time coach driver, I've often had to ask passengers who are in the process of boarding my coach topless to cover their torso up. Regrettably it's never women.

In a civilised society, we should all know and respect the obvious unwritten rule of ensuring you are dressed adequately for the trip/visit/journey you are going to make.

If you can't be arsed to take off your nightwear when nipping to your local 24/7 Tesco at midnight, then Tesco shouldn't be arsed to let you in.

Well done to a Welsh branch of Tesco for upholding this ruling. For this is just one aspect of the slippery slope down which our society is gradually sliding. Shame on you Stephen for not siding with the 'big boy' on this one.

I totally agree with charles steve. There are no standards in society today. Its time for you stevie boy to get off your fence and take a stand, whether its left or right, make a decision and stop being so liberal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charles and Anon.

Thanks for leaving a comment but I disagree with you both. Although I am in favour of public nudity this issue is about dress code and footwear. This is Cardiff and not Saudi Arabia where the religious police enforce women to cover up. We should have the freedom to dress as we like and I am surprised that Tesco is happy to turn the business away. Nobodies dress sense has ever offended me, even the sports wear capital of the UK - Liverpool.
